Frequently Asked Questions
If your vehicle is in need of repairs, you probably have a lot of questions. We encourage you to review some of our customer’s frequently asked questions to see if the answers can help you.
I have been in an accident. Now what?
If you are in a crash with another vehicle, if you suffered a hit and run, or if you hit an object and suffered damage to your vehicle, only call the police if:
- Someone is injured
- You are outside of your province
- You are victim of a hit and run, theft, or vandalism
Am I covered?
If you purchased ICBC collision coverage, private insurance, or if the other driver is wholly or partially at fault, then all or most of your vehicle’s repair costs are covered. Damage to another driver’s vehicle is not covered by your ICBC Collision coverage. Your liability coverage would pay for these costs if you caused the damage.
What do I do now?
Report your ICBC or private insurance collision claim. With ICBC you can report a claim online or by phone, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You will need:
- The license plate number of each vehicle involved
- Drivers license of each driver
- Insurance information for the vehicles involved
- Police file number if there is one
The adjuster at your insurance company will gather as much information as possible about the crash. He will then review the claim details considering the rules of the road as outlined in the Motor Vehicle Act. He will also determine who is responsible for the crash and keep you updated on your claim.
If your insurance adjuster decides it is not economical to repair your vehicle, it may be deemed a write-off. In this case you will receive a settlement amount for the vehicle’s market value.
What is a hit and run?
A hit and run is when an unidentified driver damages your vehicle, or injures you, but leaves the scene of the collision. You should call the police immediately if you notice a hit and run motorist leaving the scene and provide as much detail as possible. You should also report the claim to your insurance company as soon as possible and no later than six months after the incident.
How do I get an estimate of the damage?
Estimates are done at an ICBC accredited c.a.r. shop VALET repair facility such as Audy Auto Body Victoria, who is extremely reputable with both ICBC and private insurance companies. By bringing your vehicle to an ICBC accredited facility, your repairs are guaranteed for life as long as you own the vehicle.
You are never legally obligated to go to the collision repair centre your insurance company may suggest. As a vehicle owner, it is your right to choose the collision repair facility that you prefer. However, if the facility you choose is not ICBC accredited, your repairs will not be guaranteed.
When you make a claim with your insurance company, you can let ICBC or your private insurance company know that you would like to have your vehicle repaired at Audy Auto Body Victoria.
We provide estimates free of charge for all auto body repairs. You do not need an appointment for an estimate. Just visit our shop and one of our estimators will be happy to help you. If you are using insurance, bring your claim number and insurance papers to expedite the process. We cannot provide estimates over the phone.
Remember that there is a two-year limit from the date of your incident to complete the repairs. At Audy Auto Body Victoria, no appointment is necessary in order to get an estimate, drop-ins are welcome.
What do I do about transportation while my vehicle is being repaired?
If your vehicle cannot be driven, if it is unsafe to drive, or if it is being repaired as a result of a claim, you may qualify for a rental vehicle or reimbursement of public transportation. Make sure to keep your receipts for any public transportation or taxi fares.
How long do auto body repair services take?
No two repair projects are the same, so it is difficult to determine an average time frame to expect for the repair of your vehicle. Some projects last only two to three days, while others may take weeks to complete. This depends on the damage done and the part’s availability. However, Audy Autobody Victoria ensures you are not without your vehicle for long, so we strive to finish your auto body repairs as quickly as possible without taking shortcuts. We can typically provide a time estimate once we see your vehicle and do an estimate.
Will I have to pay a deductible?
When the repairs are finished on your vehicle, you may have to pay a deductible to the repair facility. A deductible is the amount you have to pay towards repairs before your insurance company covers the rest. Your insurance company pays the repair facility directly for the repair work. Our experienced estimators work closely with your insurance company on your behalf to minimize any out-of-pocket expenses. Our aim is to take care of your claim from start to finish.
Will I have to pay more for insurance?
If you are less than 25 percent responsible for a crash, you will likely have to pay more for insurance unless you have a long, claim free record.
Does Audy Autobody Victoria guarantee repairs?
Certainly! We guarantee all of our collision repairs for as long as you own your vehicle. Audy Autobody Victoria guarantees that all repairs meet industry standards, ensuring that the completed project does not have any defects in workmanship or materials. Our guarantees are valid from the date of issue and for as long as the car remains in the continuous possession of the registered owner.
